Brake System Installation Guide

HINE-R brake systems are precision hydraulic components designed for high-performance bicycle braking. Correct installation is essential to ensure safe operation and optimal braking performance.

If you are unsure about installing hydraulic brake components, installation should be carried out by a qualified bicycle mechanic.

Tools Required

  • 4 mm and 5 mm hex keys
  • Torque wrench
  • Clean lint-free cloth
  • Isopropyl alcohol or disc brake cleaner
  • Mineral oil bleed kit (if installing a full brake system)

Pre-Installation Checks

Before installing your brake system, ensure the following:

  • The frame and fork mounts are compatible with the brake caliper
  • Brake rotors are correctly installed and true
  • Rotor size matches the brake configuration
  • All mounting surfaces are clean and free from grease or debris

Caliper Installation

1. Install the brake rotor and ensure it runs true within the frame or fork.

2. Position the brake caliper over the rotor and install the mounting bolts loosely so the caliper can move slightly.

3. Visually align the caliper so the rotor sits centrally between the brake pads. This ensures the braking force is applied evenly across both pads.

4. Check that the pistons extend evenly from both sides of the caliper. If necessary, carefully reset the pistons using a suitable piston tool before final alignment.

5. Once the caliper is centred, tighten the mounting bolts evenly using a torque wrench according to the recommended torque specification.

6. Spin the wheel and check that the rotor runs freely between the pads. Minor adjustments may be required to achieve optimal clearance.

Brake Lever Installation

1. Position the brake lever on the handlebar in the desired position.

2. Tighten the clamp bolt evenly until the lever is secure but still able to rotate slightly under impact.

3. Adjust lever angle to match your riding position and comfort.

Brake Hose Routing

  • Ensure the brake hose is routed without sharp bends
  • Avoid contact with moving parts or sharp edges
  • Secure the hose using frame mounts or clips where available

System Bleeding

If installing a complete hydraulic system or replacing hoses, the brake system must be properly bled to remove air from the hydraulic circuit.

Use only mineral oil hydraulic brake fluid compatible with the HINE-R braking system.

Follow the recommended bleed procedure to ensure consistent lever feel and braking performance.

Bedding In Brake Pads

New brake pads require bedding in to achieve optimal braking performance.

Ride at moderate speed and apply the brakes progressively 15–20 times to transfer an even layer of pad material onto the rotor surface.

Avoid prolonged heavy braking during the initial bedding-in process.

Safety Notice

Hydraulic braking systems are safety-critical components. Incorrect installation may lead to reduced braking performance or component failure.

Always check braking performance before riding and ensure all fasteners are tightened to the correct torque specification.
