Compatibility
The HINE-R braking system is designed around modern mountain bike standards and a simplified installation architecture. This page outlines the core compatibility requirements for the HINE-R brake system, including mount standards, rotor sizing and hydraulic system requirements.
Caliper Mount Standard
The HINE-R caliper uses the industry standard Post Mount (PM) interface.
The caliper incorporates an integrated +20 mm mount offset built directly into the caliper body. This means the caliper is designed to run a rotor that is 20 mm larger than the native frame or fork post mount size without requiring a traditional +20 mm adapter.
Integrated +20 mm Mount Offset
The integrated mount design simplifies installation by building the +20 mm offset directly into the caliper.
Rotor compatibility works as follows:
- 160 mm Post Mount frame or fork → 180 mm rotor
- 180 mm Post Mount frame or fork → 200 mm rotor
- 200 mm Post Mount frame or fork → 220 mm rotor
This design reduces the need for separate adapters while maintaining correct caliper alignment relative to rotor size.
Rotor Compatibility
The HINE-R braking system is designed for use with standard stainless steel bicycle disc brake rotors.
Supported rotor sizes depend on the frame or fork mount standard and the integrated +20 mm caliper offset.
- 180 mm rotor on 160 mm Post Mount
- 200 mm rotor on 180 mm Post Mount
- 220 mm rotor on 200 mm Post Mount
Rotors must be suitable for hydraulic disc brake use and correctly matched to the frame, fork and riding application.
Rotor Spacer System
Because some rotors are manufactured in 203 mm and 223 mm sizes, the HINE-R brake system includes a precision spacer system supplied in the installation kit.
The kit includes spacers in 3 mm increments, allowing the caliper to be aligned correctly with rotor sizes that differ slightly from the nominal +20 mm mount offset.
This allows correct alignment with common rotor sizes including:
- 203 mm rotors
- 223 mm rotors
The spacer system ensures that the brake pads are positioned correctly relative to the braking surface of the rotor while maintaining proper caliper alignment.
Rotor Compatibility Table
The table below shows how rotor size corresponds to frame or fork mount standards when using the HINE-R caliper with the integrated +20 mm mount offset and supplied spacer system.
| Frame / Fork Mount | Rotor Size | Spacer Required |
|---|---|---|
| 160 mm Post Mount | 180 mm | None |
| 180 mm Post Mount | 200 mm | None |
| 180 mm Post Mount | 203 mm | 3 mm spacer |
| 200 mm Post Mount | 220 mm | None |
| 200 mm Post Mount | 223 mm | 3 mm spacer |
Rotor Mount Interfaces
The HINE-R braking system is compatible with both common rotor mounting interfaces:
- 6 Bolt
- Centerlock
Caliper Architecture
The HINE-R caliper uses a four piston configuration with 16 mm pistons. This configuration is designed to distribute braking force evenly across the pads, helping to deliver stable braking behaviour, predictable modulation and consistent rotor contact.
Hydraulic Fluid Compatibility
The HINE-R brake system is designed to operate using mineral oil hydraulic fluid.
DOT brake fluid must not be used.
Brake Lever Compatibility
The HINE-R caliper is designed to operate with the dedicated HINE-R brake lever system. Compatibility with third-party brake levers should not be assumed unless specifically confirmed by HINE-R Engineering.
This is important because hydraulic brake performance depends on the balance between master cylinder sizing and caliper piston area.
Brake Hose Compatibility
The HINE-R braking system uses hydraulic hose connections designed for high-pressure mineral oil brake systems. Final hose fitting and service part details will be confirmed with production specification release.
Brake Pad Compatibility
Brake pad compatibility will be confirmed once final caliper geometry and pad retention architecture are finalised. Further information will be published as development progresses.
Frame and Fork Considerations
Before installation, ensure that the frame or fork:
- Uses the Post Mount standard
- Provides sufficient clearance for the intended rotor size
- Is rated for the selected rotor diameter
- Is suitable for use with a high-performance hydraulic disc brake system
Installation Guidance
Correct rotor size must always be selected based on the native mount size of the frame or fork combined with the HINE-R caliper’s integrated +20 mm offset and supplied spacer system.
If you are unsure about compatibility, installation should be carried out by a qualified bicycle mechanic.
